Welcome to The European Amateur Championship 2008
Message from the Chairman of Esbjerg Golf Club
At Esbjerg Golf Club we are looking forward to host this years International European Men's Championship 2008.
We are also looking forward to welcoming players and officials to the scenic settings and well-groomed courses we have at EGK. The golf course itself is located in Marbaek forest and heather, which is to be found close to Denmark’s fifth largest city, Esbjerg.
We hope that all participants and officials will have many rewarding experiences and impressions to bring back home from this intriguing golf course. A course that was designed in 1975 by the famed danish railroad architect Fredrik Dreyer.
If and when the game allows, there will be plenty of opportunity to enjoy our spectacular costal setting, that our club is so fortunate to be located in
A warm welcome to Esbjerg Golfklub.

Message from the President of Danish Golf Union
This year The European Championships for the best amateurs take place in Denmark, and we shall certainly do our very best to secure that all the practical parts of the tournament are handled in a professional way.
The venue is Esbjerg Golfklub, founded in 1921, and actually the third oldest golf club in Denmark. However, the present venue is just over 30 years old. The original nine holes were situated very near the city of Esbjerg, and in the 70’s it was necessary to get more space, and 18 holes were opened a bit outside of Esbjerg. Since then 18 more holes have been added.
I have played the course several times, and it is no exaggeration to say that fairways and greens are always in mint condition. Often the greens are lightning fast, and I feel assured that the greenkeepers will spare no effort to present a course that will demand absolute top performances from players who wish to see their names on the leader board. Situated near the North Sea we have a course where the wind often plays an important part. The course in Esbjerg is one of the longest in Denmark – and with the wind blowing into your face, some of the holes feel very long.
Weather has a lot of influence on the game as well as on the number of spectators. Therefore I hope that the weather will be so nice that thousands of people will come and watch, and on the other hand so challenging that the players will need to show us all their skill.
